Arctic Drive crafting guide: blueprints, scrap and recycling
How Arctic Drive’s crafting loop works: research blueprints, power the bench, recycle salvage, and craft parts, tools, food and base modules.
WP 07Waypoints / 8 sections
Crafting is the engine of an Arctic Drive run. You strip a wreck, recycle what you cannot use, research a blueprint, power a bench and turn scrap into the part that keeps the car alive. The official store page describes the loop in one sentence: gather items to recycle and turn into upgrades by crafting them.
The system has been overhauled at least once during development. This guide describes the current confirmed structure, not a frozen recipe tree. If you want exact costs, the in-game bench is the only source that cannot be out of date.
The confirmed crafting loop
The closed-beta recap describes a complete crafting overhaul: brand-new interactive crafting mechanics, a hammer used to manually craft vehicle parts, a Cooking Bench for food and survival supplies, and a new recyclable Organic resource. Crafting benches and recyclers require generator power.
In play, the loop looks like this:
- Loot the world. Wrecks, cabins, shacks and POIs provide salvage, parts, food and materials.
- Recycle what you cannot use. The recycler turns salvage into crafting materials. It needs generator power.
- Research the blueprint. Bring a blueprint to the Research Station to unlock a recipe permanently.
- Power and use the bench. Craft parts, tools, food, medicine, clothing and base modules.
- Install or carry the result. A crafted part still has to be attached, packed and protected from the road.
Research Station and blueprints
Update 0.9.4 introduced the Research Station and a new progression system. Bringing a blueprint to the station permanently unlocks the recipe, and the unlock is saved when the run ends. That makes blueprints a meta-progression layer: a bad run can still leave you with a better recipe book.
The six research categories are:
- Vehicles — parts and vehicle upgrades.
- Decorations — cosmetic and comfort items.
- Food — meals and warming items.
- Meds — painkillers, anti-frost pills and similar supplies.
- Clothing — the layer between your body and the cold.
- Tools — the flare gun, flashlight, sledgehammer and other equipment.
If a recipe is unlocked but your bench tier is too low, the crafting list shows the item with a message explaining the tier requirement. That is a useful signal: you do not need to guess whether a blueprint is missing or the bench is simply not good enough.
Scrap, Organics and Chem
The workbench UI in official screenshots shows separate resource counters. The three we can identify are:
- Scrap — the common crafting material, shown as a gear-like icon.
- Organics — a recyclable resource added in the closed-beta overhaul; the July update increased how much can be found.
- Chem — a third counter visible in the workbench UI. The public notes do not explain which recipes require it.
The important design point is that salvage is not automatically useful. You have to convert it, and conversion requires infrastructure. A bench without power is a workbench-shaped decoration.
Powering the bench
Crafting benches and recyclers require generator power. Generators consume fuel. The September 2026 patch made generators consume slightly less fuel, which suggests the original drain was noticeable.
That creates a three-way fuel competition:
- The car needs fuel to move.
- The trailer consumes a small amount of fuel when attached.
- The generator needs fuel to power the bench and recycler.
A good crafting stop answers one question before it starts: is the part I am about to craft worth more than the fuel I am about to burn? If the answer is not clearly yes, drive first.
What can be crafted
The following items and categories are confirmed from developer notes or official screenshots. This is a scope list, not a recipe tree.
Vehicle & recovery
- Repair kits (levels 1–3)
- Battery, radiator, doors
- Tires, including the Sponello Summer Tire
- Cargo box
- Sledgehammers (Good / Excellent)
- Transport boxes and shelves
Survival & tools
- Food and cooked meals
- Protein bars
- Painkillers
- Anti-frost pills
- Flare gun
- Old flashlight
- Plastic ice scraper
Base modules
- Crafting bench / workbench
- Cooking bench
- Cargo boxes and shelves
- Trailer modules (heat, power, storage)
Not confirmed as craftable
- Revival kits — confirmed as starting-garage items, craft status unknown
- Solar panels, bunks, microwave, radio — confirmed modules, craft status unknown
- Winches, chains, heaters — confirmed parts, craft status unknown

Why we do not publish recipe costs
This is a deliberate editorial choice. Official screenshots from different pre-launch builds show the same recipe with different costs. The Cargo Box, sledgehammers and repair kits have all appeared at different prices. Posting a table of numbers now would produce a page that is confidently wrong on launch day.
Instead, we publish the structure:
- Recipes are gated by blueprint research and bench tier.
- Costs are paid in resources such as Scrap, Organics and Chem.
- The bench must be powered; the generator consumes fuel.
- Some recipes are available by default in campers; others require research.
After launch, we will build a recipe table from the live build and date-stamp it. Until then, the in-game bench is the source of truth.
A practical crafting routine
- Loot with a purpose. If it is not fuel, food, a part, a tool or a known crafting material, question the weight.
- Recycle before you hoard. A wreck full of unusable objects is a material delivery. Convert it at the recycler.
- Research first, craft second. A permanent blueprint unlock is worth more than a one-off item, especially if the run is going badly.
- Check the bench tier. If a recipe is visible but locked, the game tells you the bench is too low. Do not waste a trip looking for a different blueprint.
- Stock the car before the base. A perfect base with no fuel is a museum.
- Leave a reserve. Crafting consumes fuel through the generator and, in a trailer, through the bench. Keep enough to move.
What is still unknown
- The current recipe costs for every item.
- Which recipes require Chem versus Organics versus Scrap.
- The full blueprint source list and how blueprints spawn.
- Bench tier progression, upgrade costs and whether tiers carry between runs.
- Which base modules are craftable versus loot-only.
- The recycler’s conversion ratios and accepted item classes.
- Whether the Research Station is available in the demo, the Early Access build, or both.
