Arctic Drive is a first-person co-op survival road trip set in a procedurally generated frozen wasteland. You wake up in a cold cabin with almost no food, a beaten-up car in the garage and a road leading into the unknown. The car is the only thing keeping you alive, and it is not in good condition.

The game is developed by Pebbles Games and PlayTogether Studio and published by Bonus Stage Publishing. It enters Early Access on November 25, 2026 for PC via Steam and Xbox Game Preview. A free demo is already available on Steam.

What is Arctic Drive?

The short version

A co-op driving-survival game where you repair a failing car, pack it with scavenged supplies and try to cross an Arctic that is actively trying to freeze you.

The longer version

A physics-heavy vehicle sim wrapped around a hunger, thirst and body-temperature loop, with procedural routes, physical cargo, trailers, RVs, crafting and one-to-four player online co-op.

It is not a combat game. There are no confirmed monsters, zombies or weapon-based enemy encounters. The pressure comes from the cold, the road, the weather, the weight of your cargo and the fact that the car can break at the worst possible moment. The Steam page calls it a “first-person co-op survival sim built around one fragile thing: your car.”

The premise

The official opening is specific and grimly funny: you wake up in a cabin, there is no food, the fridge has a half-empty can of soda, and the garage contains a beaten-up old car with its parts lying around it. The cold is already wrapping around you. Fingers tingling. Hunger twisting your stomach.

You have to get the car running and leave the warmth of the cabin. There is no way out but the long, treacherous road into the unknown. That is the entire premise, and it is a good one: the first act is not “find a weapon.” It is “find a battery, fix the cooling and decide what to leave behind.”

The core loop

The loop is easy to describe and hard to execute:

  1. Repair and upgrade the car. Attach missing parts, fix damage, manage fluids, swap tires and improve the engine and storage.
  2. Scavenge and pack. Search cabins, gas stations, wrecks, shacks and points of interest. Every object is physical; weight matters.
  3. Drive, navigate and endure. Follow a randomized road, manage fuel and temperature, and seek shelter when the weather closes in.
  4. Craft and improve. Recycle salvage, research blueprints and craft parts, tools, food and base modules.
  5. Repeat with better equipment. A trailer or RV becomes a mobile base; a better engine and better storage extend the range.

The key design choice is that the car is both the progression system and the failure state. A better car lets you go further; a broken car turns the world into a very cold walk. That is why the guides on this site spend so much time on maintenance and weight rather than on a “best weapon” list.

Confirmed features

These features are stated by the publisher, the Steam page or the developer’s patch notes:

  • Procedurally generated Arctic — a different route network and points of interest each run.
  • Fully simulated damage — chassis and parts deform on impact.
  • Physical objects — if you can lift it, you can load it.
  • Trailers and RVs — convertible into mobile bases.
  • Survival meters — hunger, thirst and body temperature.
  • Blizzards and whiteouts — physical wind, reduced visibility and a full day-night cycle.
  • 1–4 player online co-op — host or join friends, share supplies, revive teammates.
  • Scenarios and sandbox — a guided Brian scenario plus open play.
  • Vehicle customization — engines, tires, heaters, chains, winches, storage and decorations.
  • Crafting and recycling — benches, blueprints, salvage and upgrades.
  • Proximity voice chat — voice activation and push-to-talk.
  • Tornadoes — announced November 4, 2026; can throw players, the truck and cargo.

Survival and weather

The survival layer is confirmed but not fully specified. You manage hunger, thirst and body temperature. You can hunt or forage, melt snow for water, cook, make a fire or keep the engine running to avoid hypothermia. The closed beta added contaminated drinks, fall damage and stun from heavy impacts. Demo v0.19.2 rebalanced hydration, pee needs, stamina and loot.

Weather is the main antagonist. Blizzards and whiteouts reduce visibility, and the August 2026 update made storms physically move objects. Storms begin spawning from day two. Tornadoes were announced in November 2026 and can ragdoll the player, throw the truck and scatter collected items.

For the full mechanics, see the survival guide and the weather and hazards guide.

Vehicles and the road

The public record confirms several vehicles: the Facia Reno 12-4S starting car, the compact N100-2S, the referenced N100-4S, and the Buck Warden pickup (the garage poster calls it the “BUCK 130 WARDEN”). Trailers and RVs serve as mobile bases. More vehicles are planned for Early Access and full release.

The car has an in-game inspection panel for torque, fuel efficiency, battery behavior, heat gain, temperature range and oil. Parts have weight, crashes deform the chassis, and cargo can shift or spill. The vehicle guide covers the systems; the vehicle database lists the confirmed models without invented stats.

Co-op and platforms

Arctic Drive supports single-player and online co-op for up to four players. The publisher describes coordinating roles, sharing supplies, reviving teammates and keeping the vehicle rolling. Host or join friends; multiplayer saves are stored by the host. Steam-to-Steam play is confirmed. Crossplay between Steam and Xbox has not been confirmed.

Platforms:

  • PC (Steam) — Windows 10/11 64-bit listed on the store page.
  • Xbox Game Preview — confirmed by the publisher for the November 25 Early Access release.

No PlayStation, Switch or mobile version has been announced. There is no confirmed local co-op or split-screen mode. See the co-op guide for the full platform and crossplay breakdown.

Story and setting

The setting is a frozen, post-apocalyptic Arctic. The official copy does not explain the apocalypse in detail. The roadmap lists story as part of the Early Access milestone, so expect the narrative to expand after launch. What we know:

  • Brian is the friend at the center of the scenario. He went to get more gas and never came back. The player follows him.
  • The demo includes a cabin note reading “BRIAN GONE?” next to a framed photo, dog food and a mug. The tone is personal, not military.
  • The developer’s roadmap lists story as part of the Early Access milestone, suggesting the demo scenario is only the beginning.
  • The game’s title and premise are about finding safety, not winning a war. The official tagline: “There must be safety out there.”

We do not publish story leaks or invented endings. If you want the scenario’s setup without spoilers, the demo guide covers what the demo actually contains.

Early Access status

Arctic Drive enters Early Access on November 25, 2026. The price is TBA. The developer expects Early Access to last a little under a year and says the price will gradually increase as content and features are added. The current build is described as already playable, with a complete core experience focused on exploration, driving, vehicle customization and multiplayer.

The developer also warns that players should expect bugs, balance issues, incomplete features and placeholder content during Early Access. That is normal for the model, but it is relevant to a buying decision. The release page tracks the confirmed details and the unknowns.

What it is not

Not a combat game

No monsters, zombies, weapons or PvP have been announced. The environment is the antagonist.

Not a finished 1.0

It launches in Early Access with an evolving feature set. The roadmap is a plan, not a guarantee.

Not a trucking mission game

There is no confirmed job contract system like SnowRunner. The goal is survival and distance, not deliveries.

Not a fixed-map wiki

The world is procedurally generated. A static “map” page would be misleading; our locations database covers POI types and confirmed landmarks.

Who it is for

Arctic Drive is for players who enjoy:

  • Vehicle maintenance and repair as a core mechanic, not a minigame.
  • Co-op survival where the group has to divide chores and share a fragile base.
  • Slow, tense road trips through hostile weather rather than power-fantasy combat.
  • Games like The Long Drive, Drive Beyond Horizons, My Summer Car, Mon Bazou and SnowRunner.
  • Early Access projects where the road ahead is part of the appeal.

If you want a polished, complete game today, wait. If you want to help shape a promising survival sim and you enjoy the first hour of a road trip more than the destination, the demo is the right place to start.
